About Don…

Hello everyone, I am a professional photographer with over 30 years of industry experience and more than 20 years as an educator. I am deeply committed to supporting amateur photographers as they develop their skills, confidence, and passion for the art of photography—just as I have throughout my own journey.

Based in Toowoomba, I regularly travel throughout Queensland and New South Wales to deliver workshops and classroom-based teaching in schools. I also offer online Zoom tutorials and lead annual travelling workshops to Tasmania and New Zealand.

Since 2020, I have been teaching both online and face-to-face courses at the University of Southern Queensland, where I lecture in the Professional Photography undergraduate major in the School of Business, Law, Humanities and UniSQ Pathways.

Experience and Awards

In 1988, I graduated from the Queensland College of Art (QCA) with distinctions and won the IAMBI Student Award for achieving the highest grade in the technical course.

I also graduated from USQ Springfield with distinction in 2016 with a Bachelor of Applied Media. I received the Golden Chain award for being in the top 10 per cent of graduates that year.

My first teaching role began with Flying Arts in 2001, with a week-long 35mm B&W film photography workshop in Blackall for Queensland Flying Arts Inc. in combination with Arts West Queensland.

Since then, I have travelled throughout regional Queensland, New South Wales, and New Zealand, leading guided tours, conducting week-long workshops, and speaking as a guest at symposia.

I also organise a small Photography group called the Toowoomba Shutterbugs, where I run classes, field trips, and chit-chat lunches in and around South East Queensland. Please email me to join our Facebook page.
