Photographer: David Martinelli – McGregor Summer School Photography Workshop

As popular as one-on-one photography lessons are in Toowoomba, I am always available for group workshops with up to 15 people. These workshops can be conducted in most locations throughout Queensland and New South Wales.

Over the years, I have run many workshops and have loved doing them, particularly on remote cattle stations or community groups in rural destinations. Most are run over a long weekend or can extend to a week.

Past clients have included art groups, galleries, schools, TAFE colleges, universities, mining companies, and local photography groups and festivals.

Choose from any of these courses

  • Camera Basics
Most students undertaking this course have bought a new camera or want to refresh their skills before an upcoming holiday. It covers all the basics to get you up and running to start taking brilliant shots effectively.
  • Manual Exposure
Most students undertaking this course would love to get off the Auto setting. It would be a perfect refresher course or advancement for those upgrading their skills from the beginner level.
  • Photo Editing
These courses cover topics from beginner to advanced photo-editing levels; don’t hesitate to contact me to discuss which works best for you.

Workshop courses can be the same as those listed above or combined and customised to suit your particular needs. They can be as basic or advanced as you require. Set at a level for primary, secondary or university-level students and adults. We also cater for NDIS and special needs students. Please indicate your preference during the quoting process.

Please note that higher-level dependent students will require small class sizes, with no more than ten students and student support staff where required.

Organising a photography workshop

It will require a fair degree of planning and negotiation, including what to teach, when and where, how long, and, of course, the budget. To start with, I suggest you email me an outline of your proposed workshop so I can then come back to you with some costs and likely outcomes. Time limits are also a factor, as a photography workshop can take several weeks to organise and roll out at your preferred location.

Workshop costs start at a basic day rate of $350.00. Additional fees may include travel, accommodation, a meal allowance, and note printing.
Please note a maximum of 15 students per class is recommended. Larger class sizes are okay for practical activities but not for theory lessons.

After the initial costs have been sorted, I strongly suggest we talk over the phone or have a Zoom meeting to resolve any unresolved issues and discuss final details well before the intended start date. Generally speaking, I like to arrive at the location the day before so I have time to get a feel for the workshop layout.

Depending on the workshop you have in mind, I can bring along some equipment to make the process easier. For example, I will generally bring printed notes for each student, a workshop schedule, and my laptop computer installed with the associated Adobe photo editing software as required. I also have a digital camera and several film cameras for demonstration, which the students can use.
